RENAULT CLIO TUNING
Choosing your aftermarket parts is a personal journey....
Modifying your Renault Clio takes time and patience like most cars. Owners do not simply bolt on an aftermarket exhaust and hope for the best. We as owners ponder our choices before getting tuned. We want the best high performance parts from a specialist. Take exhausts for example, you may want a non resonated Milltek cat back or a catless downpipe (also known as a decat) from Scorpion for your Clio 172 but what is needed so that will work? Your car is no longer stock whilst you may have goals of being stage 3 or 4 in the future, your stage 2 is just temporary and when looking around the web for the best price so to install the latest tuning upgrade doesn’t come into it or maybe it does, we all have budgets and lifestyles right?
Every owner and enthusiast is different, we all have different goals and opinions what are the best pads to use on track or for street, the best brake discs, is about how they look or how they perform? This is why so many manufactures provide us with lots of choices such as EBC, they often manufacture brake discs in four different version so we as owners can be unique. Then you have Brembo or Pagid pads to choose from, should it be yellowstuff, orangestuff or greenstuff front brakes, can I mix and match greenstuff in the rear brake calipers and bluestuff at the front, What is my brake bias anyway?
Say for instance you have a turbo back exhaust and wish to improve how the car breathes, do you need an airfilter from K&N or Pipercross, are ITG air filters any good? What about an intake kit and then there are the silicone hoses that connect to the intake say from Forge Motorsport. The options never seem to stop and modifying cars with rear wing and front splitter so the kerb appeal styling is jaw dropping complemented with high performance parts we get to a point of wishing and working towards upgrade for everything possible to our own tastes. Many don’t want to just slip on muffler or use any resonated exhaust, some need a buddy, a fellow, a forum so to better understand what exhaust note, tone or size is best.
With so many chip tuning, dyno & remapping services on the market one persons Renault Clio 182 can be so different compared to the options another performance enthusiast decided upon. Maybe after all the tuning is done, shown your friends and colleagues the dyno printout it’s time to think about suspension, you might know someone who fitted Eibach coilovers to their Clio 4 trophy but always preferred the setup on their 172. Are H&R lowering springs more progressive than KW? Could I get away adorning the suspension with 2 way or 3 way adjustable struts, it’s not just a case of throwing away the stock struts and put anything on and make it work, your performance car is part of you, it’s an expression, an individual taste, this is why we are owners, we can own whichever style and choice we wish. Who knows you may even take your Clio MK3 out for a spin every now and again never forgetting the Protrack front brake pads on that always just do it for you, if only the rear discs were better.
